The National Speed Awareness Scheme has now been introduced in Essex and Speed Awareness courses are now an alternative to prosecution being offered by Essex Police.

Essex Police is committed to road safety and is actively seeking to educate and not prosecute drivers who have exceeded a specific speed limit through a minor error of judgement

The Speed Awareness Scheme has been introduced to give eligible offenders the opportunity to attend a course as an alternative to the Fixed Penalty system of a £60 fine and 3 penalty points to be endorsed on their licence.

The courses are only available by referall from the police. Voluntary attendance at any of the other courses in the country will not have any bearing on any pending prosecution in respect of reducing penalty or sentence.
