Essex County Council will this week celebrate World Social Work Day (Tuesday 16 March) by paying tribute to the social workers who are dedicated to supporting vulnerable children and adults in Essex.
World Social Work Day is a global celebration of the work done by the social work profession to improve quality of life for vulnerable people.
Cllr Peter Martin, Leader of Essex County Council said: “Social work is a very demanding, challenging profession but one that gives almost immeasurable satisfaction and pride when a life is improved due to social care intervention.
“It is a profession that is judged more harshly perhaps than any other and one that is scrutinised by so many. It is not always easy working on the front line but I would like to take this opportunity to say thank-you to all those working in Essex’s adult’s and children’s services and reiterate my commitment to supporting them to deliver the very best services to vulnerable people across the county.”
There are many opportunities for qualified social workers in Essex. For those who want to work in children’s services there are positions such as: supporting approved foster parents; working with children who are in or leaving care; providing assessment and advice to families with children with disabilities, and roles in child protection.
Those who choose to work in adult social care may find themselves: supporting vulnerable adults with living at home and managing budgets; carrying out assessments to identify service user needs, or helping those with disabilities.
Cllr Martin continued: “World Social Work Day is an opportunity to not only recognise the achievements of social workers but to showcase the profession. Essex County Council welcomes applications from those looking to further their social work career and we work hard to recruit and retain social workers.”
