Each month Essex School Library Service showcases one non-fiction and one fiction book on the Essex

After a successful launch in 2006 eight titles have been shortlisted for our 2008 award.
Essex (SLS) is a fully traded service working within the Schools, Children and Families directorate. We aim to be a totally customer focused service that responds quickly to all educational changes that affect the needs of our contracted schools. Where resources or products are not available,we have worked hard to produce our own in-house packs and schemes of work. Schools can now purchase or borrow a range of picture packs covering such diverse subject areas as London, autumn, poems and sculpture. Working with the Francis Frith collection we have produced the first in a series of packs on our historic towns. Combined with present day photographs they will illustrate how local areas have changed.
We are constantly looking to fill gaps within the market and to produce top quality pictorial packs to support work within the classroom. Our library games have been developed to bring an element of fun into the learning process. Pupils can now be taught library and information skills through Library Bingo, Dominoes, Dewey Mix and Match and Library Jeopardy. These and many other games now ensure that our skills' sessions are enjoyable events.
