Last year Essex households threw away almost 700,000 tonnes of rubbish, about 500kg for every adult and child living in Essex.
We are responsible for the disposal of all household and commercial rubbish collected by your local council.
Your District or Borough Council is the Waste Collection Authority and is responsible for collecting your waste from the kerbside. If you have any questions about your kerbside collection you should contact your local Council.
We play a major role in monitoring and restoring landfill sites, returning the land to benefit the local community.
Our aim is to maximise reuse and recycling, by providing services such as Recycling Centres for Household Waste, selling cut price home composters and promoting reusable nappies.
We also undertake activities to raise awareness of waste and recycling such as road shows, community events and work with schools. The Waste Education Team provides a range of free Waste Education Programmes and resources for Essex schools.
