What assistance is available to you or your child when they have completed Year 11 at school?

Post 16 Transport

If you have never had a Statement of Special Educational Needs...

Are you:

  • Aged under 19 at the beginning of the academic year (1st September)?
  • Attending a full time course at a school, sixth form or college that is funded by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC)?
  • Living over 3 miles away from the school/college you have chosen?
  • Going to be attending the nearest establishment that offers the course you have chosen? In the case of A Levels this means 2 out of the 3 or 4 you have chosen would have to be available at a closer establishment for you to not be entitled to assistance.

If you have answered yes to all the above statements then you can apply for Post 16 Transport Assistance from Essex County Council. Unlike transport in years 7 to 11, there is a charge for transport in years 12 and upwards. The charge is set at £485 for the academic year 2010-11.

You may be entitled to have the £485 charge waived. For more information, refer to our application form and notes of guidance via the links on the right hand side of this page. Alternatively, please call Contact Essex on 0845 603 2200 to request an application form.
