Care managers or social workers are responsible for assessing your needs and deciding whether the person you care for qualifies for services. The first thing that will happen is the first contact point will determine whether you (and / or the person you are entitled to) would be entitled to services through social services. This will be done by way of an 'assessment'. People assessing your needs are very practical. They will look at what help is needed with dressing, bathing, toileting, cooking, cleaning, shopping, getting around and claiming benefits.
