We actively support the concept of sustainability - i.e. improving quality of life now and for future generations; in the wider community and in everyday approaches to work. In particular the group works in partnership with others, towards an environmentally, economically and socially sustainable countryside (including nationally important landscapes like Dedham Vale) and the internationally significant rural coast.

We also advise on strategies, plans and policies to ensure that development is as sustainable as possible and that natural resources are managed in the most sustainable way, having regard in particular to issues such as renewable energy, climate change, air quality etc.

Together with the landscape and ecology section, we act as the environmental conscience of the County Council, promoting environmental best practice.
