Key to the success of the County Council's involvement with any emergency is the County Emergency Response Centre (CERC) situated in the basement of County Hall in Chelmsford. The CERC is the control centre for operations and liaison with the emergency services.
Recent emergencies in which the CERC has been opened include the outbreak of foot and mouth, major flood alerts and the fuel crisis; confirmation, if any was needed, that this is an active unit dealing with real situations, and one, which must be properly resourced.
