A joint approach to reducing crime and disorder is carried out by local district/borough councils, a representative of Essex County Council, the police, police authorities, fire and rescue authorities and Primary Care Trusts. This is a statutory requirement under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.
These organisations are jointly responsible for co-ordinating a partnership approach to reducing crime and disorder in your area.
They also work with a number of other authorities such as the Probation Service and local organisations to prepare and implement a strategy to tackle crime and disorder. These strategies are based on an audit, or strategic assessment, of crime and disorder related problems in the area, undertaken by the local partnerships.
